A Brief History of Roycom

Roycom is a Halifax based pension fund real estate advisor founded in 1976.  In addition to serving the real estate needs of Canadian pension funds over the years, Roycom created Summit REIT, Canada’s largest industrial landlord that was recently acquired by ING.  Today, Roycom focuses exclusively on its pension fund accounts and is actively building portfolios across Canada. 
 

Robert (Rob) Roy – Shareholder, President and CEO

As the leader of our team, Rob is responsible for creating all new funds and ensuring that the investment policies and return objectives are met or exceeded for Roycom’s valued clients. Rob has performed several roles during his tenure with Roycom including: leasing, asset management, development, equity raising and syndication, and acquisitions and dispositions.  He joined Roycom in 1982 upon receiving his Honours Business degree form the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. 

John Roy – Shareholder, Senior Advisor

Mr. Roy is the founding shareholder of Roycom and provides ongoing strategic vision to the firm. John has sat on several prestigious boards including Summit REIT, Crombie Reit, Coemergence Limited as well as The Shambhala Institute for Authentic Leadership. JohnÕs latest project is the 3E Initiative (Economy, Energy, Environment), a non-partisan, multi-stakeholder effort to catalyze the actions necessary for Canada to transition successfully to a high efficiency low carbon economy.

Graham Pattison – Vice President and COO

Appointed to his current role in 2006, Graham oversees the management of the Roycom office, takes a lead role in the creation and closing of new funds and coordinates the asset management function for all properties in the various portfolios. Graham is also actively involved in overseeing the financial analysis and due diligence functions for property acquisitions along with executing any financing arrangements required for current assets under management. Graham previously held the position of Asset Manager and has been instrumental in creating the policies and procedures surrounding acquisition analysis and due diligence. Graham completed his Masters in Business Administration at the University of New Brunswick and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Dalhousie University.

David Pappin – Vice President Acquisitions/Dispositions

David joined Roycom in 2008 and is responsible for sourcing and completing acquisitions and managing dispositions for the company across the Country. David has over 19 years experience in the Commercial Real Estate business within the Toronto and Atlantic Canada Marketplace. While in Toronto David was an award winning sales representative with a National Brokerage and moved to senior management responsible for the Industrial Sales and Leasing and Land Development Division for the Company. Upon relocating to Halifax, David was President and Owner of a multifaceted real estate company employing over 250 individuals in offices throughout the region. David completed his Bachelor of Science degree from McMaster University.

Tammy Newhook - Controller

Tammy is a Certified Management Accountant who manages all financial requirements of the company including cash control, property and portfolio accounting, budgeting and auditing.  She also manages the process to assess client needs for customized reports and ensures their timely delivery.  Tammy makes certain that all compliance issues are properly addressed within all property portfolios.  With a 20-year history of experience in the real estate industry, including work with industrial, retail, office and residential portfolios, Tammy has performed all functions of real estate accounting including accounts payable and receivables.  Her extensive experience provides Roycom with the strong financial platform necessary to reach performance goals. Tammy has been a part of the Roycom team for 17 years.

Dwayne Doolan – Asset Manager

Dwayne joined Roycom Inc. in 2007 as Asset Manager after working for the previous five years as Director of Property Management with a regional property management firm. Prior to that, Dwayne worked with Oxford/Fencorp Properties and ended his tenure there as Asset Manager of a portfolio of institutional properties worth in excess of $150 million. With over 15 years of real estate experience, Dwayne brings an excellent understanding of the asset management process to Roycom drawing upon his previous work with a variety of property types including office, retail, institutional and residential assets. Dwayne obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Saint Francis Xavier University and has successfully completed numerous industry related studies.

Carla Rose – Assistant Controller

Carla is actively involved in monthly financial reporting, budgeting, and annual auditing. She has a supervisory role with respect to property accounting. Carla has been working in the property management industry for the past 27 years and has expertise in accounting and administration of residential, commercial, industrial, and retail properties. Carla has been an integral part of the Roycom team for the past 10 years.

Erin O’Connell – Property Accountant/IT Support

Erin is actively involved in all aspects of financial statement preparation including cash receipts, accounts payable, journal entries, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, budgets and audits, to name a few. Erin also acts as IT support for Roycom relying on her previous education and experience with network administration. Erin is responsible for system backups, system support and report design/implementation using the accounting software system. Erin has a Certificate in Data Processing Technology and has been working in the real estate business for 21 years. She spent the first 10 years of her career with Roycom and joined us again in 2006.

Christine Cottell – Executive Assistant and Office Manager

Christine diligently manages all of the administration functions for Roycom, including the coordination of meetings, preparation and distribution of reporting packages, records maintenance, web site design, conference organization, client communications and various other special projects. Christine has worked in the real estate industry for 19 years. She spent the first eight years of her career with Roycom and returned in 2002.
